The President of the Republic received the Ambassador of Japan

Norimasa Hasegawa, the Ambassador of Japan, presenting his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident Lennart Meri received Norimasa Hasegawa, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Estonia, who came to present his credentials, in the presidential palace of Kadriorg at noon today.

Presenting his credentials, the Ambassador of Japan said that Japan is aware of the remarkable progress that Estonia has made in developing its economy and society. Stating that in last ten years, after the restoration of diplomatic relations, the relations between Estonia and Japan have developed steadily, the Ambassador expressed his hope that the beginning century would witness further growth of co-operation and friendly relations between the two countries.

The President of the Republic spoke of cultural contacts between Estonia and Japan and wished that these would grow further in the coming years. The President also invited Japanese businessmen to invest in Estonia.
