The President of the Republic of Estonia had a meeting with Allar Jõks, Chairman of the Estonian Association of Judges

President Lennart Meri today met Allar Jõks, Chairman of the Estonian Association of Judges, and discussed matters related to Estonian legal system and accession to the European Union.

President Meri proposed that Mr. Jõks be nominated as a candidate to the post of Legal Chancellor. Allar Jõks accepted the President's proposal.

The President of the Republic will start consultations with the political parties represented in the Riigikogu in order to present Mr. Jõks's candidacy to the Riigikogu.

Allar Jõks is a recognised administrative judge, and a distinguished practitioner of law. As the Chairman of the Association of Judges, he has considerably contributed to the orienting of Estonian judges towards the European tradition of justice. Allar Jõks was born in 1965, and he has not been a member of the communist party.
