President of the Republic attends the World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples

President Lennart Meri will open the III World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples together with the Finnish President Tarja Halonen and the Hungarian President Ferenc Mádl in Helsinki on December 11, 2000.

The Presidents of Finland, Hungary and Estonia will also give speeches at the Congress. Later, President of the Republic will meet the Finnish President Tarja Halonen at the Presidential Palace. The Finnish President will host a lunch in honour of the President of Hungary and the President of Estonia, and a joint press conference of the three Presidents will take place.

President of the Republic will meet the representatives of the chairs of the Estonian language studies of Finnish universities and, as the Patron of the Year of Estonian Book, hand over to the chairs a gift from the Central Committee of the Year of Estonian Book – a selection of Estonian books.

President Meri will be back in Tallinn late Monday evening.
