The President of the Republic goes to Finland

President Lennart Meri will this evening travel to Finland in order to participate tomorrow in the ecumenical declaration of Christmas peace at the Turku Cathedral on the invitation of the Turku municipality.

President Meri will tomorrow morning meet the Finnish President Tarja Halonen at Kultaranta, and later both Presidents will travel to Turku.

The video recording of the declaration of Christmas peace that is going to take place tomorrow can be seen on Finnish TV on Christmas Eve. The Finnish Radio has started its Christmas Eve programme with the broadcast of the Christmas Peace declaration at the Turku Cathedral ever since 1935, and since 1983, the event has also been broadcast on Finnish TV. President Lennart Meri is the first foreigner to declare Christmas Peace at Turku.
