20.12.2000

President Lennart Meri today had a meeting with the Finnish President Tarja Halonen at Kultaranta; the Presidents analysed the outcome of the Nice Summit, the successful third World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples and its repercussions.

This evening, the Estonian President and the Finnish President were in Turku, where the Estonian President Lennart Meri declared Christmas peace on the ecumenical service at the Turku Cathedral. A photograph taken on September 10, 1999, showing the Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and the Estonian President Lennart Meri sitting in the chairs where Theodore Roosevelt, Jossif Stalin and Winston Churchill sat during the Yalta Conference of 1945 was left in Turku as a relic of President Meri's declaration of Christmas peace.

President Meri will be back in Tallinn on Wednesday morning.
