President of the Republic opened air surveillance centre at Ämari

President Lennart Meri visited the Ämari air base today at noon and opened the Estonian Air Surveillance Centre that had been created with the support from the United States of America, Norway and Denmark.
In his address the President emphasised that the creation of joint air surveillance area with Latvia and Lithuania is a proof of efficient co-operation between three Baltic States. The President thanked the good friends of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, who gave guidance and dedicated their time to three Baltic States, who had restored their independence without functioning defence structures.
The President wished strength to the Estonian air force in the further development of national defence in Estonia.
