President of the Republic discussed energy issues

President Lennart Meri had a meeting with Prime Minister Mart Laar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Minister of Defence Jüri Luik and Minister of Economic Affairs Mihkel Pärnoja in the presidential palace today. On the meeting, the energy issues connected to national security and environmental problems were discussed. Academician Endel Lippmaa, Raivo Vare and Jaan Uustalu participated in the meeting as experts.

On the meeting the co-operation between the Baltic States in the field of energy was discussed, as well as the inclusion of the energy systems of the Baltic States in the energetic circle of Western Europe and the Nordic Countries, especially in the context of the NRG Energy business plan.

Tomorrow, on March 30, on President Lennart Meri's proposal, the co-operation in the field of energetics between the Baltic States will be discussed on the traditional meeting of the Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian President in Vilnius.
