President of the Republic offered dinner to a Member of the United States Congress

President Lennart Meri offered dinner to Tom Lantos, Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and his spouse yesterday. Tom Lantos was in Tallinn to present the film ''The Last Days'', speaking of the fate of the Hungarian Jews in World War II. President Meri and Congressman Lantos spoke of the film that should be a lesson and also a moral message.

At dinner offered by the President and Mrs. Helle Meri at their Viimsi home, the main themes of discussion were the domestic policy situation in Russia and the war in Chechnya, as well as developments in Ukraine, Georgia and Byelorussia, and the NATO enlargement issues.

On the dinner hosted by the President the atmosphere was warm and convivial, and also the U.S. Ambassador to Estonia Melissa Wells, the President's representative at the roundtable of national minorities Hagi Shein, and the President's Diplomatic Counsellor Toivo Klaar were present.
