Today at noon, President Lennart Meri had a telephone call from the Turkish President Süleyman Demirel, who informed President Meri that he fully understands and shares the position stated in President Meri's letter to the Heads of State of the OSCE member states on his not attending the OSCE summit. Süleyman Demirel was interested whether President Meri would still agree to present his positions personally in Istanbul, and to seek jointly a solution to the tragic situation of North Caucasia.

President Meri confirmed that on the general discussion, Estonia would be represented by Prime Minister Mart Laar and Minister of Foreign Affairs Toomas Hendrik Ilves.

President Demirel expressed his hope to meet Lennart Meri in the near future.
