President of the Republic delivered an academic lecture at the Helsinki University

President Lennart Meri delivered an academic lecture in the Studia Generalia series at the Helsinki University yesterday. The President lectured on the subject: ''Do small languages and cultures have a chance of survival in Europe?'' The text of the President's original lecture in English, as well as the Finnish and Estonian translations, are available on the President's homepage on the Internet address www.president.ee. On the discussion that followed the lecture, the President answered numerous questions about the future of small nations.

Today, Finnish architects will take the Estonian President to see the settlements in the close neighbourhood of Helsinki, which have been built there since 1920. On his visit, the President is accompanied by Vello Asi, the Professor of Architecture, who also consults the President in the matters of the Young Family Home project.

The President will return to Tallinn this afternoon.
