President of the Republic had a Meeting with the Members of Pro Baltica Forum in Helsinki

President Lennart Meri yesterday started his working visit to Finland. The Board of the non-profit organisation “Pro Baltica Forum” hosted a lunch in honour of President Meri. Pro Baltica Forum consists of businessmen and diplomats who are interested in developing closer ties with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The Vice Chairman of the Forum Bertel Paulig and Antti Piippo from Elcoteq OY, as well as Mauri K. Elovainio and Christer Nykopp (Sonera), Minna Kohmo (Yritys-Sampo), Erkki O. Auvinen (Partek), Risto Mäkinen and Kauko Relander (Pohjolan Voima), Stefan S. Widomski (Nokia), Heikki Savolahti (FINPRO), Barbro Widing (The Finnish Ministry of Commerce and Industry), Antti Karppinen and Paavo Keisalo (Pro Baltica Forum) and Mati Vaarmann, the Ambassador of Estonia to the Republic of Finland, were present on the lunch.

After lunch, President of the Republic and Mrs. Helle Meri flew to Rovaniemi, where an honorary doctor’s degree of the University of Lapland shall be conferred to President of the Republic.
