02.03.1999

The Ambassador of Moldova Nicolae Dudau on the ceremony of presenting his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident Lennart Meri received Nicolae Dudau, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova, who came to present his credentials, in Kadriorg today.

In his speech at the presentation of his credentials, the Ambassador emphasised how Estonia's successful development has set an example to Moldova, and hoped that as an Ambassador, he would have the opportunity to tighten the co-operation between the two countries.

As the Estonian President said, Estonia is closely following the events of Moldova, and also the situation on the banks of the Dniester – similar events in the history of the two countries, such as the consequences of the Hitler-Stalin pact, compel Estonia to do so. Estonia wishes the best to Moldova, the Head of State stressed.

On the meeting of Ambassador Dudau and President Meri the relations between the two states, as well as the situation on the banks of the Dniester and Russia's obligation to withdraw her armed forces from that region, were discussed.
