President of the Republic Met the Representatives of the Centre Party Faction

President Lennart Meri met the Centre Party faction representatives Edgar Savisaar, Siiri Oviir and Küllo Arjakas in Kadriorg today. The President congratulated the Centre Party leader Edgar Savisaar and the Centre Party on the most numerous support on the elections.

On the meeting, the need to guarantee stability in domestic policy was discussed. As the President said, for this a stable and efficient majority government for the next four years would be necessary. Foreign policy was also discussed – the enlargement of the EU and NATO, and the situation in Russia. The need to amend the Election Act to make it simpler and more easily understandable for the people was also considered.

Edgar Savisaar informed the Head of State that he is prepared to hold negotiations for the formation of government.

President Meri will today also meet the representatives of the factions of the Pro Patria Union and the Estonian Reform party in the Riigikogu.
