President of the Republic Invited the President of India to a State Visit

President Lennart Meri this morning invited Kicheril Raman Narayanan, President of the Republic of India, to a state visit to Estonia, and the Indian President was very glad to accept the invitation.

On his meeting with the Estonian President, President Narayanan mentioned that it is very important to promote economic relations between the two states, especially considering the current economic developments. During President Meri’s visit to India, it was decided to establish the Estonian and Indian Business Chamber.

President Narayanan emphasised the importance of affinity in personal relations in building up the communication between states, and expressed his pleasure that the Estonian President’s visit to India has been a great success. President Narayanan expressed his hope that his counter-visit to Estonia would take place soon. The exact time of the visit will be confirmed through diplomatic channels.

After the farewell to the Indian President, the Estonian delegation proceeded to Agra. President Lennart Meri, Mrs. Helle Meri and the accompanying delegation visited Taj Mahal, which belongs to the UNESCO World Inheritance List, and the Agra Fort. Tomorrow, on Sunday, February 7, the Estonian delegation will be in Jaipur and have a meeting with the Governor of Rajasthan.
