The President of the Republic had a meeting with the Prime Minister

The President of the Republic had a meeting with Prime Minister Mart Laar on Wednesday, June 27. On the meeting, the Prime Minister summed up the progress of the negotiations on expanding the equity of Narva Elektrijaamad Ltd. The President of the Republic emphasised that he had maintained his negative attitude towards the terms of privatisation, which he had expressed in his letter to the Government of the Republic on June 27, 2000. In that letter, the President of the Republic emphasised that energy security must be an inevitable precondition of the agreement.

The President and the Prime Minister also discussed the problems of the development of tourism in Estonia. As the President said, it is important for local governments to have a comprehensive vision of tourism economy. Also the building of deep sea port at Saaremaa and improvement of the connection between Saaremaa and Hiiumaa were discussed.

The President highlighted Saaremaa county government's efficient work in tourism development.
