The President of the Republic conferred the Cross of St. Mary’s Land on Andreas Meyer-Landrut

Today the President of the Republic conferred the II Class Order of the Cross of St. Mary’s Land on Andreas Meyer-Landrut, who is now the leader of the Daimler-Chrysler agency in Moscow.

Andreas Meyer-Landrut, who comes from a Baltic German family, was born in Tallinn on May 31, 1928. Since 1955, he has been employed in the foreign service of the German Federal Republic, and in 1983-1989 he was the Secretary General of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During Europe’s pivotal years 1989-1994, Andreas Meyer-Landrut worked as the Director of the German President’s Office, and his discreet and efficient work contributed to Germany’s support to the restoration of Estonia’s independence, reinstating the diplomatic relations between the two countries, and building up Estonian statehood. Andreas Meyer-Landrut has not forgotten either the country where he was born or the Estonian language.
