President of the Republic Received the Ambassador of Sweden
29.10.1998

President Lennart Meri received Elisabet Borsiin Bonnier, the Ambassador Extraordianry and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Estonia, who came to present her credentials, in Kadriorg today.

Ambassador Borsiin Bonnier extended to the President of the Republic the cordial greetings of Carl XVI Gustaf, the King of Sweden.

As the Ambassador said, there are four important facets in the co-operation between Sweden and Estonia: bilateral relations, relations with the Baltic Sea countries, co-operation in Europe and global co-operation. The Ambassador confirmed that it is very important for Sweden to have Estonia as a successful neighbouring country, and that Sweden supports Estonia's accession to the European structures and the World Trade Organisation. The Ambassador also said that the co-operation of the Estonian and Swedish military far away from home is a good example of co-operation.
