Estonian leaders discuss events in Latvia

President Lennart Meri, Prime Minister Mart Siimann and Foreign Minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves had their traditional Wednesday meeting at Kadriorg today, where they mainly focused on recent developments in Latvia.

President Meri, Prime Minister Siimann and Foreign Minister Ilves have all kept in touch with their Latvian counterparts. The Latvian leaders have asserted in the conversations that Estonia's support to Latvia has been strong and Latvia hopes Estonia will steer the same course. During the past six months Estonia has been a major supporter of Latvia at the international level.

Discussing the situation, the Estonian head of state, prime minister and foreign minister condemned the provocative acts perpetrated in Latvia and affirmed that Latvia respects the rule of law and the universally recognized European norms.
