President of the Republic Met with President of the UN General Assembly

Today in his home at Viimsi, President Lennart Meri met with President of the UN General Assembly Harri Holkeri and offered him a dinner.

President Lennart Meri and Harri Holkeri discussed the tasks of the United Nations Organisation in today's world, which is globalising and becoming technically standardised, yet also characterised by the increasing aspiration for identity in different regions.

Harri Holkeri said that bringing Estonia over into the group of Western countries of the UN has not been decided yet. President of the UN General Assembly Harri Holkeri thanked President Lennart Meri for the reception on behalf of the 198 members UN states. At the end of the meeting, President Lennart Meri and Harri Holkeri expressed their hope that the UN will be able to achieve its goals.
