President of the Republic Met with Representatives of the Holy See

Today in Viimsi, President Lennart Meri met with the representative of the Holy See to Estonia, Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Erwin Josef Ender, who paid his visit of departure to the President of the Republic. Archbishop Erwin represented the Holy See in Estonia since December 1997.

In the words of Bishop Erwin, Pope John Paul II remembers his visit to Estonia and the meetings he had here, including the meeting with President Lennart Meri. The Bishop said that the Catholic Church is satisfied that the state also acknowledges marriages concluded in the church.

President Meri said that the church can add moral power to the society and that there is abundant ground for deep religious dialogue in Estonia. They also spoke about the Catholic convent that will start its work in Pirita in September.

Bishop Erwin will move on to become the Bishop of Prague.
