An official White House press release has reached the Estonian President’s Office about a forthcoming visit of the three Baltic Presidents to the United States:

“Visit by the Presidents of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania

The Presidents of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have accepted President Clinton’s invitation to visit Washington in January. This visit will include a wide range of official consultations and a White House ceremony on January 16 at which the four Presidents will sign a Charter of Partnership. The Charter articulates a set of shared principles and values that will guide further cooperation and the advancement of common goals.

This visit will mark an historic step in the deepening of our relations with the Baltic states. The President is committed to advancing the integration of these three states into the European and transatlantic communities as a critical element of his strategy for building a secure, prosperous, and undivided Europe. The visit will be the third time President Clinton has met with his three counterparts from the Baltic region since assuming office.”
