The President of the Republic received the Ambassador of the Netherlands

President Lennart Meri received Joanna Maria Petronella Francisca van Vliet, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Netherlands, who had come to present her credentials, in the presidential palace of Kadriorg today.

The Ambassador extended the best regards of Beatrix the Queen of Netherlands. Presenting her credentials, the Ambassador spoke of the relations between the two countries that date back to the Hanseatic times and have become close again during the past ten years.

As Ambassador Joanna Maria van Vliet said, also the fact that she is the first Ambassador of the Netherlands to start her work in Tallinn will help to tighten the relations between the two countries.

President Meri thanked the Netherlands for the support to Estonia in the last ten years. He added that changes in world security also necessitate closer co-operation in the field of security between the two countries.
