President of the Republic and Prime Minister Met Today
18.04.2001

Privatisation of Estonian Railway was the main issue discussed at the Wednesday meeting of President Lennart Meri and Prime Minister Mart Laar. President Meri listened to the standpoints and explanations of the Prime Minister about the current course of the privatisation.

At the end of the meeting, the President of the Republic repeated that he would like the Prime Minister to give him data about security risk management. President Meri emphasised that he still considered it necessary to inform the public fully and precisely about what has happened as well as of the liability and activities of every politician and civil servant. Every citizen of Estonia has the right to know that the interests of Estonia are protected in important management decisions, said President Meri, even though the information we now have deepens the conviction that preparations for the privatisation of Estonian Railway were not sufficient.

Celebration of the Day of Mourning and opening of an exhibition in the former KGB cellar in Pagari Street were also discussed.
