Estonian International Commission of Investigation of Crimes Against Humanity Assembled

The Estonian International Commission of Investigation of Crimes Against Humanity assembled on April 26 and 27 in order to make a summary of the results of the investigation into German occupation and to start the investigation of the first Soviet occupation.

A summary of the crimes against humanity committed during the German occupation was made in the two-day session of the Commission, and the program for investigation of the crimes against humanity committed during the Soviet occupation in 1940-1941 was approved. At the press conference held on Friday, the Chairman of the Commission, Minister Max Jakobson and member of the Commission Nicholas Lane gave an overview of the conclusions about the crimes against humanity committed during the German occupation.

The President of the Republic gave a dinner in honour of the Commission members.

President Lennart Meri called the Estonian International Commission of Investigation of Crimes Against Humanity together in October 1998. The objective of the work of the Commission is to conduct an impartial investigation of the crimes against humanity committed against citizens of Estonia or in Estonia during the occupations.
