President Lennart Meri yesterday returned from his working visit to the People's Republic of China, Macau and Hong Kong, where meetings with Jiang Zemin, the President of the People's Republic of China, and Li Peng, the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, as well as with the governmental leaders of Shanghai, the Hainan Province and the Special Administrative Regions of Macau and Hong Kong took place. The President visited international seaports of Shanghai and Hong Kong, and delivered a presentation at the dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

The President of the People's Republic of China invited the Estonian Head of State to a working visit to China in order to celebrate the tenth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Estonia and China.
