The President of the Republic met the Chairman of the Parliament of Kazakhstan

President Lennart Meri received the delegation of the parliament of Kazakhstan currently visiting Estonia, led by Zharmakhan Tuyakbai, the Chairman of Parliament, in the presidential palace of Kadriorg today.

The President welcomed the guests from Kazakhstan and assured them about Estonia's eager readiness for co-operation with the country and people in the inland of Asia. As the President said, the ports of Estonia, especially the port of Tallinn, are prepared to receive and deliver goods arriving from Kazakhstan. On the meeting, Kazakhstan's wish to learn parliamentary culture from Estonia was discussed, as well as skills related to market economy and financing matters. Also the use of the Kazakh language in the work of the Kazakh parliament and legislation was discussed, as well as the role of national minorities, especially that of the 350,000 Germans of Kazakhstan, in the life of the country.

President Meri confirmed Estonia's support to Kazakhstan's wish to become a member of the World Trade Organisation.
