The first congratulations to President Lennart Meri on the occasion of the Independence Day have arrived at the Office of the President of the Republic of Estonia.

The President of the United States of America George W. Bush congratulated the people of Estonia on the occasion of the 83rd anniversary of the Republic of Estonia and wrote that the coming years will offer many opportunities for enhancing U.S.-Estonian relations, and looked forward to co-operation between the two countries to consolidate social and economic progress in Estonia. President Bush affirmed his belief that the security, stability, and prosperity of Estonia should be rooted in a European home. ''We look forward to continuing our cooperation with you in support of Estonia's aspirations for membership in all Euro-Atlantic Institutions. Together our Transatlantic partnership will ensure Estonia's place in the European Family of Nations,'' President Bush wrote in his letter of congratulations.

The President of China Jiang Zemin extended his congratulations on behalf of the whole Chinese people and wrote that he is looking forward to meeting President Meri again in Beijing. President Zemin is confident that with that visit as a turning point, China-Estonia cooperation will be further promoted to a new level.

Also the Russian President Vladimir Putin wished success, well-being and prosperity to all the peoples living in Estonia on the occasion of the National Day.
