President of the Republic entertained the Hungarian President in Tartu

The Hungarian President Ferenc Mádl, who is on a state visit in the Republic of Estonia, visited Tartu with President of the Republic today.

In the Tartu Town Hall, the Presidents were greeted by the Mayor of Tartu Andrus Ansip, the County Governor Jaan Õunapuu, and Professor Peter Tulviste, who is the Chairman of the Tartu Municipal Council.

At noon, the Presidents visited Tartu University and participated in academic roundtable. At the roundtable, teaching of the Finno-Ugric languages in Estonia and in Hungary, as well as the prospects of intensifying the studies of Hungarology and the Estonian philology in both countries were discussed.

The two Presidents also visited the Chair of Finno-Ugric Studies of Tartu University, where a meeting with Hungarian students took place.

In the afternoon, the Mayor of Tartu Andrus Ansip hosted a dinner in honour of the guests at the restaurant ''Atlantis''.

The Presidents visited the Estonian National Museum, where the guests were greeted by Jaanus Plaat, Director of the Museum.

This evening, the President of the Republic of Hungary Ferenc Mádl will host a reception at the Kadriorg Palace in honour of President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri.

Tomorrow, the President of Hungary will be in Tallinn, where the Presidents of Estonia and Hungary will give a joint press conference. The Hungarian President will leave Tallinn Thursday afternoon.
