This evening, Tarmo Kõuts, the Commander of the Defence Forces and former Chief of the Border Guard, and Harri Hein, the Director General of the Board of Border Guard, and Major Raivo Terve, Head of the General Department of the Board of Border Guard, conferred on the President of the Republic the I Category Memorial Medal of the honorary decoration of the Border Guard ''10 Years of Restored Border Guard''. This way, the Estonian Border Guard Administration expresses their appreciation to the Head of State for services rendered to the restoration of the Estonian Border Guard.

Accepting their acknowledgements, the President of the Republic emphasised that for him, this meant much more than a mere act of protocol. President Meri expressed his conviction that under the leadership of the new Chief, the Border Guard would work just as efficiently for the greater good of Estonia.
