President of the Republic received the Foreign Minister of Sweden

President Lennart Meri has a meeting with Anna Lindh, the Foreign Minister of SwedenPresident Lennart Meri had a meeting with Anna Lindh, the Foreign Minister of Sweden, who is visiting Estonia prior to the beginning of Sweden's six months of the EU presidency, in the presidential palace of Kadriorg today.

On the meeting, the enlargement of the European Union was discussed. The Swedish Foreign Minister confirmed Sweden's wish to accelerate the accepting of new members, proceeding from the principle ''who is ready, is ready''. The Minister advised Estonia to seriously work in that direction, especially in the field of legal space and environment. President Meri emphasised that Estonia would not reduce the speed of preparations, and thanked the Foreign Minister of Sweden for Sweden's manifold support to Estonia's preparations.

Also the success report of the European Union was discussed, as well as the forthcoming Summit in Nice and the process of informing the publicity about the EU matters.
