President Lennart Meri this evening sent a letter of congratulation to Janne Mugame, who had won a bronze medal on Sydney Olympics in 50 metres backstroke swimming. The President wrote that for every sportsman, and also for every nation, an Olympic medal is a grand accomplishment. This is a reward for long and painstaking training efforts. ''With your excellent accomplishment in sports, you have once again brought pure joy to the hearts of the people of Estonia,'' the President wrote.

President Meri thanked Janne Mugame and confirmed that the people of Estonia are proud of her.
