President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri will leave for a state visit to Germany on the invitation of Johannes Rau, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany on November 6-10, 2000.

The route of the state visit includes Stuttgart, Berlin and Rostock.

On Monday, President Lennart Meri offered dinner at Viimsi to Berndt von Staden, the former State Secretary of the Federal Republic of Germany, and to Professor Loeber and Baron Stackelberg, in order to discuss the relations between Estonia and Germany and the programme of the state visit.

On a wider plane, also Estonia's prospects to introduce herself in Germany and relations to media publications were discussed. The ways to highlight Estonia's success in the field of politics, economy and culture most clearly for the German public, using the context of the state visit, were discussed on the meeting.

Also Baltic Germans, who gladly use their influential positions in German society to serve the interests of their ''old country'', have good opportunities to develop contacts between Estonia and Germany, the representatives of the Baltic German community confirmed at dinner.
