President of the Republic handed over the Ernst Jaakson Scholarship and Public Servant Award

At Paslepa today, President of the Republic handed over the international relations scholarship of the Ernst Jaakson Foundation to Kaari Kivikas, a politology student of Tartu University, and to Sirli Sipp, a postgraduate of the European College of Tartu University; the President also handed over the award of a conscientious and responsible public servant to Veiko Tali, the Head of Ownership Reform and Securities Market Department of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Estonia.

President of the Republic said that Ernst Jaakson is diplomat, who is a symbol of the continuity of the Republic of Estonia. We should keep his work in mind when looking into the past, and when looking into the future.

President Lennart Meri gave Veiko Tali the Ernst Jaakson Public Servant AwardThe Council of the Ernst Jaakson Foundation appreciated the contribution of Veiko Tali from the Ministry of Finance to the establishment of the ideological basis for the ownership reform and privatisation, and to the further arrangement of the ownership reform.

Also Prime Minister Mart Laar participated in today's ceremony at Paslepa.

The public servant award, issued for the second time this year, is 10,000 kroons, and the scholarship is 15,000 kroons this time.

The first scholarship, issued this spring, went to Katrin Uba, a student of politology from Tartu University, and the first public servant award was issued to Kyllike Sillaste, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in London.

The purpose of the Ernst Jaakson Foundation that was founded at Hiiumaa on October 1, 1998, is to preserve the memory of the distinguished Estonian diplomat Ernst Jaakson and to support the strengthening of Estonian independence. The Foundation issues a scholarship in the field of international relations and an award to an educated and conscientious public servant. President of the Republic is the patron of the Foundation.
