President of the Republic met the Ambassador of Poland

President Lennart Meri received Jakub Wolasiewicz, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland, and Mrs. Hanna Wolasiewizc, as well as Lemmi Erin, the author of the Estonian-Polish dictionary, in the presidential palace of Kadriorg today.

President of the Republic bestowed the Order of the Cross of St. Mary's Land on the Polish Ambassador, who started his work in Estonia in 1994, and is now the doyen of the diplomatic corps in Estonia, for his services to the Republic of Estonia. Decorating the Ambassador, the President said that the Ambassador's personal contribution to fostering Estonian-Polish relations is considerable, and that the new Estonian-Polish dictionary is just a tip of the iceberg in these relations. The Ambassador thanked the President for the great honour bestowed upon him.

Ambassador Jakub Wolasiewicz handed over to President Lennart Meri the gift of the Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, the Estonian-Polish dictionary published in Lublin. In his letter to the Estonian Head of State, the Polish President stated that the dictionary composed in co-operation of the researchers of Tallinn, Tartu, and Krakow is important for the relations between the two nations.

The Ambassador also confirmed that the Polish Embassy in Tallinn is proud that both the new dictionary and the Estonian translation of Adam Mickiewicz's ''Pan Tadeuz'' that appeared this spring, have been published on the Year of Estonian Book.
