The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway paid a farewell visit to President of the Republic 14.09.2000Today, Kai Olaf Lie, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Estonia, whose term of office in Estonia is drawing to its close, paid a farewell visit to President Lennart Meri. President Meri bestowed the Order of the Cross of St Mary's Land to Kai Olaf Lie, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Estonia, for his services to the Republic of Estonia.
Receiving the Ambassador, the President said that Estonia and Norway have been good neighbours for a thousand years already, that the barriers created during the fifty years of Soviet occupation are fading away, and that the meetings of Baltic and Nordic ministers are no longer called ''five plus three'', but are now known as ''the eight''.
President Meri also thanked the Ambassador's spouse Suzanne Lie for her support to the activities of the Centre of Female Studies of Estonia.
