President Lennart Meri received a message of thanks from Li Peng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China. The Chairman of the Chinese Parliament, who had a meeting with President Meri on September 9 at the presidential palace of Kadriorg, thanked the Estonian Head of State, and through him the Riigikogu, the Government and the people of Estonia, for their hospitality.

Li Peng believes that his visit has further promoted the mutual understanding between Estonia and China, and assured that his visit to Estonia had been a complete success. Li Peng added that he is looking forward to meeting the Estonian President again in Beijing.
