President of the Republic grants the title of the most beautiful school in Estonia
21.09.2000

President Lennart Meri will hand over Kristi Kütt's tapestry ''Pidupäev'' to Konguta Elementary School, winner of the title of the most beautiful school in Estonia of the Estonian Home Decoration Year on Friday, September 22, at 10:30 AM in Tartu County.

The most beautiful school in Estonia was chosen by a jury consisting of the members of the General Board of Home Decoration on the basis of project reports.

The most beautiful school in Estonia was selected in the course of the second competition of pupils' projects ''The Most Beautiful School in Estonia''; the sub-theme of this competition was ''Child-Friendly School and the Way to School''. The pupils were to invent a project related to their school and to implement it with the help of their teachers.

The pupils' project of Konguta Elementary School reflects co-operation of the entire school community, an abundance of ideas, and the rich inner world of the pupils; learning and joint work for the good of the school and its surroundings are considered important there, said the jury.

The General Board of Home Decoration rewarded Konguta School with 20,000 Estonian kroons that originally came from the Gambling Games Council. The school has already received the money and will jointly decide how to use it best.

Tomorrow, President of the Republic will plant a rowan tree on the schoolyard and traditionally, the autumn’s birthday will be celebrated.

Also other schools that competed with Konguta Elementary School: Vodja Elementary School, Türi Secondary School and the Türi School of Technology and Economics, have been invited to the Konguta School to celebrate.

Last year, the title of the most beautiful schoolhouse went to Vara Main School.
