President Lennart Meri received Wolfgang Schäfer, President of the Landtag of Sachsen-Anhalt, in Kadriorg today. President Meri expressed his pleasure that the State of Sachsen-Anhalt has opened a mission in Tallinn, which enables to develop economic relations between Estonia and Germany; President Meri assured that Estonia is looking forward to German investment in Estonia.

Wolfgang Schäfer and his accompanying delegation assured that first and foremost, their state is interested in co-operation in the fields of agriculture and protection of the environment. As the representatives of Germany said, the Soviet army has left military waste also in Germany, and this is why protection of the environment, especially the subsoil waters, receives a lot of attention.

President Meri told the German guests of his last week's working visit to the Viru County and more widely of tourism opportunities in Estonia; the guests saw several still unused opportunities there.
