President of the Republic sent a letter of congratulations to Ferenc Madl, the new President of Hungary, who entered into office today. In his letter, President of the Republic wished his new colleague strength in his work and referred to the ethnic, cultural and political relations between Estonia and Hungary, which make it logical for Hungary and Estonia to face together the challenges of uniting Europe. President Meri also invited his Hungarian colleague to a visit to Estonia.

President of the Republic also sent a letter to Hungary's former President Árpád Göncz, with whom they have had many years of fruitful co-operation.
