President of the Republic convened the National Defence Council

President Lennart Meri convened the National Defence Council to Kadriorg for Sunday, August 27. The agenda of the meeting of the National Defence Council includes a discussion of the work of the command system reform working group that has been established to the National Defence Council; a survey of the working group's activities shall be presented to the National Defence Council by Minister of Defence Jüri Luik, Head of the command system reform working group.

The National Defence Council is an advisory body to the President of the Republic as provided in Section 127 of the Constitution of the Republic of Estonia, and its membership and tasks are provided by Section 12 of the Peacetime National Defence Act. Members of the National Defence Council are: Chairman of the Riigikogu Toomas Savi, Prime Minister Mart Laar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Minister of Defence Jüri Luik, Minister of Internal Affairs Tarmo Loodus, Head of the National Defence Committee of the Riigikogu Tiit Tammsaar, and Acting Commander of the Defence Forces Lieutenant Colonel Aarne Ermus.
