Today President Lennart Meri met Kimmo Sasi, the Foreign Trade Minister of Finland, who also fulfils the duties of the European Minister.

On the meeting, the main subjects were the opening of Estonian power market and the related possibilities to construct a power cable connecting Finland and Estonia in the near future.

The President emphasised the importance of building a power network that would connect the Baltic states and the Nordic countries.

According to Minister Sasi, the connection between Estonian and Finnish power networks would be useful to both sides; the Minister added that this subject has been discussed in Finland for a long time already.
