President Lennart Meri met the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Finnish Parliament in Kadriorg today.

On the meeting, the questions relevant for the enlargement of European Union were discussed. President Meri emphasised that at the moment, it is very important that the internal reforms of European Union and the EU enlargement process should progress parallel to each other.

The Finnish MPs spoke of Finland's experience of accession to the European Union. The Finnish experience of sanctioning the sale of land to foreigners was discussed in more detail, and it was admitted that no negative experiences have resulted from giving the sanction.
