President Lennart Meri sent a letter to Chairman of the Riigikogu Toomas Savi this afternoon, proposing to release Lieutenant-General Johannes Kert from the office of the Commander of the Defence Forces on the basis of his application in accordance with Clause 11 of Section 78 of the Constitution of the Republic of Estonia and Subsection 1 of Section 11 of the Peacetime National Defence Act. The President also forwarded the application of the Commander of the Defence Forces to the Chairman of the Riigikogu.
