President of the Republic Received the Ambassador of Kuwait

Ambassador of Kuwait Faisal R. Al-Ghaisi presenting his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident Lennart Meri received the Ambassador of Kuwait Faisal R. Al-Ghaisi, who came to present his credentials, today at noon in the Kadriorg Presidential Palace. The Honorary Company of the Guard Battalion of the Estonian Regular Armed Forces had been lined up in honour of the Ambassador, Lieutenant Rene Brus reported to the Ambassador. The national anthems of Kuwait and Estonia were played.

When presenting his credentials, the Ambassador of Kuwait expressed his hope that the relationships of the two states will continue to be as friendly as always and be an example to other small states. The Ambassador forwarded the best wishes of the Emir of Kuwait to his good friend President Meri and to the people of Estonia.

When accepting the credentials, President Meri recalled the support of Estonians to the people of Kuwait at the time when Kuwait was occupied by Iraq and said that Estonia is currently working together with the international public to help the Kuwaitis who went missing during the Gulf War to get reunited with their families. President Meri said frequent communication is a good example of the friendship between the two small states and recalled his visit to Kuwait before diplomatic relations between the two states were established.

The role of small states in the present world, and mutual co-operation between small states and co-operation through international organisations were also discussed at the meeting.
