The Office of the President of the Republic explains that with his decision made on May 19, 2000, the President of the Republic has turned down the proposal of the Supervisory Board of the bank of Estonia from May 18, 2000 to appoint Mart Opmann the President of the Bank of Estonia. The Office emphasises that Mart Opmann is thereby no longer a candidate for the position of the President of the Bank of Estonia.

The President of the Republic has requested the Supervisory Board of the Bank of Estonia to nominate a new candidate for the position of the President of the Bank of Estonia within six months.
