Meetings of the President of the Republic in the Czech Parliament and with Prime Minister

Today, President Lennart Meri continued his political meetings on his state visit to the Czech Republic. Chairwoman of the Senate of the Czech Republic Libuše Benešová offered the President and his delegation a lunch in the Wallenstein Palace. After the lunch the President met with the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament Václav Klaus, who confirmed the support of the entire political spectre of the Czech Republic to the wish of Estonia to join NATO.

In the meeting with the Czech Prime Minister Miloš Zeman the latter expressed his concern about the modest goods exchange between Estonia and the Czech Republic. In the meeting with Mayor Jan Kasl in the historical Town Hall of Prague the head of state of Estonia talked about the need to put an emphasis on the future of co-operation between cities.

Tonight, the President of the Czech Republic Václav Havel will offer a dinner in honour of President Lennart Meri and Mrs. Helle Meri in the Throne Hall of the Prague Castle, where both heads of state will deliver speeches. Tomorrow morning, President Lennart Meri will deliver an academic lecture in the Charles University in Prague and Rector of the University Ivan Wilhelm will bestow the honorary medal of the University on the President. The state visit will continue in Českŷ Krumlov tomorrow with a visit to the Czech Peace Guard Battalion.
