President of the Republic Visited Czech Military Unit

President of the Republic and Mrs. Helle Meri, who are currently on their state visit to the Czech Republic, and the delegation who accompanies them arrived in Český Krumlov in the southern part of the Czech Republic today.

In Český Krumlov, President Meri visited the centre of the Czech Peace Guards Battalion where he was presented an overview of the work of the centre and the participation of its officers and soldiers in peace guard operations. The history of the peace guard centre from its creation until today when the Czech Republic is already a member of NATO was also introduced to the President.

The President saw also the shooting training of armoured troops at the Český Krumlov practice grounds. President Meri also went on a trial ride on BMP-2.

In the evening, the Mayor of Český Krumlov Antonin Princ showed the town to the President and Helle Meri: there was a discussion in the Town Hall where the President signed the book of honour of the town, which was followed by a walk in the streets of the town and a visit to the Český Krumlov Castle.

In the evening, the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic Vladimir Vetchý will organise a reception in honour of the President of the Republic and Helle Meri.
