President of the Republic met the management of the NRG Energy

President Lennart Meri today visited the headquarters of Northern States Power and NRG Energy. President Meri, the Estonian Ambassador to the United States of America Sven Jürgenson and the President's Diplomatic Counsellor Toivo Klaar met the Chairman of the Board and the Managing Director of NRG Energy David H. Peterson, Director General of the NRG Europe Division Ronald J. Will, and President of International Operations Division John Noer. Also Hillar Lauri, representative of NRG Energy in Estonia, and Anton R. Dammer, Director of the Marine Oil and Oil Shale division of the US Department of Energy participated in the meeting.

On the meeting, the goals of the Estonian energy policy and the guaranteeing of the high quality of electricity and clean environment were discussed in a candid atmosphere. The company confirmed that environment preservation had a central role in its ideology. To verify this, an eagle's nest on top of the power plant chimney in Minneapolis was demonstrated. The power plant has a camera in the vicinity so the birds' nest can also be observed on the Internet, and has become very popular among wildlife preservers.

The management of NRG Energy spoke to the Estonian President of the company's activities, research areas, an investment policies in Bolivia, Colombia, Australia, Germany, and the Czech Republic, Poland and Great Britain. Next week, the NRG is going to activate a new boiler in the Czech Republic, and the President asked the permission for an Estonian expert to see the boiler.
