President of the Republic accepted the credentials of the Ambassador of Denmark

mbassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Jǿrgen Munk Rasmussen presented his credentials to the President of the RepublicPresident Lennart Meri received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Estonia Jǿrgen Munk Rasmussen, who came to present his credentials, in Kadriorg today. The Ambassadors presented his credentials from the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II and forwarded the Queen's cordial greetings to President Meri and the people of Estonia.

As Ambassador Rasmussen said, the relations between the two countries have developed well, Estonia has developed fast both on domestic plane and in foreign affairs, as well as in accession to the European Union and NATO. The EU-membership is within Estonia's reach and neither is the prospect of Estonia as a full member of NATO inconceivable in the foreseeable future.

As President Meri said receiving the Ambassador, he can consider the Ambassador a good friend already on their first meeting, considering the constant active political co-operation between Estonia and Denmark.

Today, the President also sent a letter to the Queen of Denmark, where he congratulates Her Majesty on the occasion of her 60th birthday and also asks Her Majesty to consider the possibility of a private visit to Estonia, hoping especially to be able to show the Queen of Denmark the island of Saaremaa.
