Mrs. Helle Meri is the patron of the Estonian TORE-movement
10.02.2000

Mrs. Helle Meri has given her consent to become the patron of the Estonian movement of support students. In her address sent to the founding meeting of the TORE movement, Mrs. Helle Meri wished the energetic young people success in their important work.

''The Estonian support students movement TORE is not only meant for organising intraschool relations or helping fellow-students, it has an important role for the whole development and future of the Estonian society. How you learn to study, to communicate with your fellow-students, respect your fellow men, what your patterns of behaviour will be like -- all this has considerable importance, as school is your first occupation, which forms a basis for your whole life,'' Mrs. Helle Meri wrote in her greeting.

As the President's spouse said, the Estonian schools that have joined the movement have made a sensible decision, proving that clear thought and will to move on can be found in today's Estonia. We have clever, energetic students and teachers with an insight to the future, who have taken this important work to their hearts, Mrs. Helle Meri wrote.

Mrs. Meri believes that the movement is important for improving the Estonian society, and that the work of these young people will be rewarded -- first and foremost with a better, healthier environment at their school and in all schools.

Mrs. Helle Meri also participated in the ceremony of the declaration of school peace that took place on the Town Hall Square on September 4, 1999, on the initiative of the TORE movement.
